This book of letters from the author’s grandfather to his grandmother while on Okinawa at the end of World War II called for a specific period look. The author supplied several new maps and other images of the time, and I referred back to my own sense of wartime color schemes. For map data, though, I started modern, as there was no good map to trace from from that period. The map is heavily annotated to be specific to the book’s narrative. As an added touch, I made the north arrow out of the U.S. combat medal for the Okinawa campaign.
